Queen Bee Legacy

If she was a song
she'd be an ol' Negro Spiritual
swing low sweet chariot
cuz this world don't do her right
got her wadin' in the water of life
but she got
life coming up to her ears
merely tryin to make it

Make it a better life
for them
who have to take it
the baton,
her legacy,
the one of a worker bee
with dreams of royalty

and she knows that there's more for me
so i fight for my destiny
I won't rest, you see
until, you best believe
you'll see me up there

my mama done declared
im the head and not the tail
above and not beneath
the H-S-I-C
head sistah in charge

livin' large and rollin' deep
so you better watch your mouth
and how you speak
don't come up in here
with your negative vibes
cuz you are looking at
the Queen
of the hive.

52 Blues

52 blues so much bad news
stack it up like a deck of cards
hecka hard bein human like me
gotta pick up my personas
like cards i play
they say too much emotion
ain't good for poker

first i go playin the fool
call me the Joker
cuz im
dancin around,
got a painted-on grin
but inwardly i frown
Hahaha-in like i done
lost my mind
wrong, i thought this was the last time

I thought the jester role would save me
from being just another number

some cumbersome oaf
loafing around
with a black and white cloak
so he gave me
the mask
and he paid me
to wear it

but the more that i bear it
i find its now sealed to my face
and disguise is disgrace

i forgot how to feel
and all that money is useless
with no one to share with...

One Day

One day eyes of thine
will lock with mine
divine coincidence of meeting
and,
in a fleeting moment,
I will have met my match.

The wait will end, a new chapter begin
but I will have to share the pen
And then (eventually)
the pages too.

Two travelers whose destination
Is neither known nor contemplated

The Elephant's Song

I wrote this poem a while back after reading Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. I felt bad about all the elephants that were exploited for their ivory tusks...

The Elephant's Song

You stare at me.
Rough skin, wrinkled, and grey.
You turn and flee.
I’m a monster, you must be prey.

Rough skin, wrinkled and grey.
But then you spot my ivory treasure.
You’re a monster, I’m the prey.
Transformed by your lust for pleasure.

Yes, you spot that ivory treasure,
And it’s your duty to slay the beast.
Transformed by a lust for pleasure.
You’re not guilty in the least.

You glare at me;
I turn and flee.
It’s your duty to slay the beast,
So you’re not guilty in the least.

You’re not sorry in the least

What's the point?

Why am I doing this? What is this page all about? Plain and simple, this is an outlet for self-expression...I feel like writing, but I'm tired of making all these random text files on my computer. With that said, the content of this blog is ME up-close and personal, in your face. I'll be writing poems, songs, short stories, vent-sessions, whatever I feel like at the moment . If you like it, that's cool; if not, well that's cool too because this is not about trying to impress anybody. I'm just trying not to bottle up this creative potential inside of me.

As for the name, "Empirically Lyrical," i kind of named it that just because it sounds good. Besides that it makes you think....my main point is that these poems and random writing are based on my observations and tthe way I feel about life. Anyway, so read on and maybe you'll get a glimpse of what I'm trying to say
